Client Relationships – Getting There Together
You know this stuff. We’ve all heard it all before; client relationships are like dating – you must establish trust and provide clients with what they need for the relationship to continue and grow. When successfully managing client relationships, you are a friend, coach, and partner.
- We all prefer to do business with people we like, respect, and trust. Showing a general interest in your client establishes rapport and helps you learn about their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT).
- Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your client and developing a regimen to focus their abilities to achieve their full potential. What does your client do better than others? How can you leverage this into growth.
- Instead of selling a client a set of products or services, you need to sell them a destination that you travel to together. Where will your client be in five years, ten years, or twenty years? How are you going to get your client where they need to be in the marketplace? Part of this process is understanding their business as well as what they do and identifying opportunities for them that they may not see for themselves.
Now that we know what we need to do the question is how do we do it? Research is one way; however, it only goes so far, because we need to provide uniquely precise information to our clients. Your client needs a feedback loop with meaningful responses to specific questions. A feedback loop ensures that they will learn what they are doing well and what they need to improve.
In addition, your client needs a way to manage all the data they receive to implement new campaigns which take advantage of customer feedback. Traditionally, you may need to utilize several software programs on various platforms to complete this task.
