Adding Emoticons for Mobile Friendly Surveys

Today, I would like to discuss the importance of using an Emoticon Question in Survey Research. I have used this type of question for all age ranges including youth, adults and the elderly. Mainly, this question really offers us researchers the ability to using an Emoji to assess Customer Feedback and much more.

The thing that I really like about the Emoticon Question is that one can still use a 5-point rating scale. For example, I could ask Adult clients “How satisfied were you with our Customer Service today?” or Youth clients “How satisfied were you with the Doctors visit today?” and offer the following answer choices:

  • Very Satisfied
  • Satisfied
  • Neutral
  • Unsatisfied
  • Very Unsatisfied

Further, I believe this type of Emoticon Question can really add a bit of fun into the evaluation process versus a traditional survey. In some cases, reading words can be more stressful than immediately being able to click on an Emoticon to express a certain feeling or opinion. This can be even further understood when a survey is taking more than 10 minutes to complete. Remember, your respondents are busy so make it as easy as possible to gain feedback!

See here a nice visual of a Health Questionnaire where we used an Emoticon Question within the FactFinder Solution powered by Jitsutech to assess a patients emotional state:

Rank Order Question in Survey Research

Rank Order is the type of survey question that I have used many times in the Travel and Tourism Industry. Specifically, it can be a great way to gain an understanding of your target populations likes or dislikes.

I particularly like the way respondents have to rank a set of answers against each other versus choosing from a 5-point rating scale. It can give us researchers insight into a respondent’s preference level which can then be translated into statistics.

However, I would recommend only using one Rank Order question per survey template. The only reason being is that you do not want to frustrate your target population with lengthy or time consuming surveys. Yes, 5 Minutes or Less!

See here an example of a fun Rank Order question converted into a visual chart within the FactFinder Solution powered by Jitsutech. Simply… Yet, Highly Effective… and you can see a specialized Ranking Score with a weighted average calculation.

PHQ-9 Depression Test Questionnaire

In reviewing several health measurement tools, I came across a Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) that was provided to me in a paper based format. The objective of this tool is to assess a patient’s level of depression and it has a manual scoring element.

As I have an Enterprise level account of the FactFinder Solution powered by Jitsutech – I thought “Why not give it a shot!” In less than 15 minutes, I was able to draft up this questionnaire template, add in the scoring key and give pre-determined feedback upon clicking of the submission button for patients to understand their score.

Assessment of Health Care needs for Women

I would like to bring light to the official journal of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. There is a wealth of knowledge in this journal, so I would definitely recommend visiting this site often. Today, I would like to discuss the research involving the assessment of health care needs for women.

The objective of this research was to evaluate women’s health services and the effectiveness of a women’s health enhanced skill residency program for Physicians. Also, there were multiple research approaches including the usage of written surveys and on-site interviews which then led to higher quality or more reliable questionnaire instruments.

The target groups included:

  1. Community Physicians and General Population;
  2. Allied Health Providers in Britich Columbia; And
  3. Leaders of Community Groups serving Women.

As I read through this interesting research study, I found that the data analytics were completed by several experts. For example, the quantitative data was crunched by a qualified statistician. She developed frequency tables and levels of agreement.  Also, the qualitative data was transcribed and themed by a specialized evaluator. This data analytics approach is costly, but highly recommended.

Click here to view this study as it is a great read and here is a quick glance at one of the Tables which has some interesting findings:

Net Promoter Score in Survey Research

This week, I would like to take time and briefly discuss the all important Net Promoter Score question in Survey Research. It is very popular and used in a variety of industries to extract customer feedback.

This single question can offer businesses with a great amount of feedback. The main purpose of utilizing this type of question is to gauge customer loyalty and their overall satisfaction. Typically, a scale between 0-10 is used and the response choices have significance in the overall results interpretation.

For example, if a respondent chooses 6 or below they are a Detractor, 7 or 8 means they are a Passive and the final choices of 9 or 10 is a Promoter.

From my experience, here is a simple breakdown of these categories:

  • Detractors are not very satisfied with the organizations products or services;
  • Passives are neither satisfied or dissatisfied with the organizations products or services and they fall somewhere in the middle of “meh, good but not great” thinking; And
  • Promoters are very satisfied with the organizations products or services.

Cancer Care: a Patient Experience Survey

I would like to continue to discuss the great work that has been accomplished in the health care industry of British Columbia. Briefly, I will be introducing the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) that is an independent research center based out of the University of British Columbia.

Over the past decade, there has been a movement of conducting research on understanding a patient’s experience with outpatient cancer care. Some research tools included questionnaires, surveys, interviews and more.  The research was led by the BC Patient Reported Experience Measures Steering Committee (PREMS Committee).

Being diagnosed with cancer is a horrific reality. Thus, it is essential that we understand the outpaitent cancer care experience and this research is a great step in the right direction.

The research focused in areas such as, but is not limited to:

  • Clinical outcomes
  • Respectful care
  • Personal views
  • Emotional needs
  • Outpatient care

Matrix Style Question: What are the Benefits?

I love using different types of questions in my Canadian Hosted Survey Software. The nice thing is that the FactFinder Solution powered by Jitsutech has a diverse question bank. Today, I would like to briefly discuss the Matrix style question.

At first glance, we can view this question like a Likert Scale where we have a 5-point rating scale and the ability to offer answers choices in a left column format. The clear difference is that the respondent will only be able to answer in a 5×5 matrix or grid that is fixed. For example, in a Likert Scale question a respondent could showcase “fast” behaviour by answering strongly agree for 5 questions straight. This type of respondent can definitely challenge the data analytics validity.

So, in my opinion, the clear advantage of using a Matrix question is that you can force the respondent (or slow them down) to specifically choose one of the 5-point rating scales to one specific answer choice. This would then offer a higher quality of response data.

Take a look at this visual display to see what I mean:

How do you Identify with your Customers?

When people find your business on the internet or through a referral, their impression of your company is formed mostly from what they are told or what they see on your website.

When potential clients see your webpage, what do they see? Your company name, products or services offered, contact information and a whole host of other important information. It is vital for you to show them you care about your customers opinions and feedback.

How do you show clients you care? One way is show them what makes your company different and how you do more for your clients. Show photos of completed projects, testimonials from happy clients on your webpage. You can show the results of the surveys you send to clients and perhaps share changes you made as a result of those surveys.

Demonstrating these things to potential clients shows you care about customer satisfaction. The FactFinder Solution powered by Jitsutech has all of the tools necessary to create questionnaires, surveys, forms, polls and more. Need Help? Hire a JitsutechPRO!

This approach can build a positive feedback loop and ensure the trust of new as well existing clients. Start 2019 right with an improved company image and profile.
